Tom Bradford is a guest character on The Rookie, played by James Remar. He is the father of Tim Bradford and Gennifer Bradford.
History[]
He is first mentioned in the episode "Hit and Run." Tom physically abused his children when he was younger, in particular Tim. Tom smashed Tim's head into a wall when Tim was 7 and, another time, left him at Griffith Park with only a compass to find his way home, which he did.
Years later, it is revealed by his daughter that he was living in hospice and slowly dying. Gennifer is shown to have forgiven him and make a bond, but Tim has cut off contact with their father. This later led to an argument between the siblings about the past, but they later made amends, though Tim still refused to see Tom.
During "Breakdown", Tim investigates an old case connected to Monica Ochoa, a family friend whose husband Frank was murdered. Initially, he believed it was his father and paid him a visit, confronting him if he did. Tom ignored the accusation to sarcastically greet his son, who was still hostile until Tom confessed to the murder and how he staged it like a robbery gone wrong. It is revealed that Tom and Monica were having an affair behind her abusive husband's back and when the abuse intensified, she shot him, and Tom helped her covered it up. Tim arrested Monica and met his father again, as Tom readied to be arrested but Tim revealed he knew the truth of his role in helping his lover.
Tom defended himself, saying that Frank was a monster, but that he was nothing like Frank; he tried to justify his abuse of Tim but was silenced when Tim called him worse for what he put their family through. Tim told him how he became who he is in spite of his dad. Having spoken his piece, Tim angrily bade his now stunned and remorseful father farewell and wished him a painful experience with his illness before departing.
