"The Overnight" is the sixteenth episode of the second season on The Rookie. This is the thirty-sixth episode of the series overall.

Summary

Officers Chen and Bradford respond to a call at the Los Angeles auditions of American Idol, and Officer Chen ends up facing Ryan Seacrest and the judges (Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie). Later, Chen befriends a reporter (Roselyn Sanchez) whose motives are not clear.

Sawyer: You know, that seems to be a theme with our dates — chasing down stolen cars, uncomfortable dinners with your partner. Maybe next time you can take me to a funeral.

Chen: Hey, thanks for coming. Bradford: Mm-hmm. Chen: I'm in trouble, aren't I? Bradford: Mm-hmm.

Nolan: What do you think it means that Grace doesn't want me to meet her son? Harper: Uh, that she's a good mother who is putting her child's welfare before everything and everyone else.

Chen: You took advantage of me because I'm a rookie. You knew that a senior officer would never have let you get involved in a dangerous takedown.

Evers: Angela, you're my best friend, and you are the sexiest woman I have ever seen. You make me laugh and cry sometimes. I fell in love with you the second that I met you, and I have been falling ever since. Will you marry me? Lopez: Yes.

Sawyer: I'm gonna start calling you Humpty Dumpty. Nolan: Don't do that. He never gets fixed. Sawyer: It's because everyone around him is incompetent. All the king's horses and all the king's men? Nobody could think to get the king's doctor?
