"The Hunt" is the twentieth and final episode of the second season of The Rookie. This is the fortieth episode of the series overall.

Summary[]

In part two of the season finale, Nolan's discovery goes much deeper than he expected and could put his life and career in jeopardy.

Plot[]

Nyla Harper agrees to help John Nolan after he shows her the body camera footage of Erin Cole's death. They lead Nick Armstrong to an abandoned house to pick up his burner phone's signal in order to tap its records to uncover evidence of his crimes, but discover that he had tossed it. Left with no other choice, Nolan returns to Rosalind Dyer, who reveals that, after Armstrong had broken into her house (as he had revealed to Nolan) to secure evidence to arrest her, she broke into his and found a stash of guns, cash, and files that incriminate Armstrong. Nolan breaks into Armstrong's house and locates it before escaping, but Armstrong sees him as he departs.

Armstrong alerts Serj Derian, who is arrested after a raid on his house. Armstrong invites Nolan back to his house, explaining that he got in too deep with the Derians once the costs for his deceased wife's medical bills became too much for him to handle. Armstrong reveals that he plans to incriminate Nolan as the mole before Nolan incapacitates Armstrong in a shootout, who reveals that he planted his stash in Nolan's house as Serj tells Wade Grey that Nolan is the mole. Nolan finds the stash hidden inside a wall in his bedroom. The season ends on a cliffhanger with Nolan standing in his bedroom as the police close in on him.

Quotes[]

Nolan: Yes, I do. He's my friend... and a mentor, and this is killing me. But if I'm right, he's betraying everything we stand for.

West: L.A. is the most self-obsessed city on the planet. Someone has a photo that puts Serj behind the wheel.

Chen: I-I still can't believe karaoke bars are covers for brothels. Bradford: Everywhere is a cover for a brothel.

Chen: Wow. You always said it would be a cold day in Hell before you drove anyone to LAX. So...are you really gonna visit Rachel in New York? Bradford: No. I'm gonna rip the Band-Aid off at dinner tonight. Long distance never works.

Lopez: Try #WreckTheDress… It's the new thing. Destroy your dress after the wedding.

Armstrong:  But that's the job, right? 90% failure, 5% victory. Nolan: What's the other 5%? Armstrong: Fear. You mind driving back with Detective Harper? I've intruded on your time long enough.

Sawyer: Please don't. I mean, this is so hard for me to do. Nolan: Grace, I love you. That has to matter.

Dyer: So noble. I give you 6-to-1 odds against, though. Nolan: Odds of what? Dyer: Surviving. Armstrong is much smarter than you, John. Twice as ruthless. Hell, he caught me. So, if this is the last time I see you, you will live on in my fantasies.

Armstrong: Not like this. I owe you the truth, but face to face. I'll be sitting in my living room. The back door's still open from when you broke in.

Serj Derian: There's another cop on the payroll. John Nolan.
