"The Good, The Bad, And The Oscar" is the eighteenth and final episode of the seventh season of The Rookie. This is the one hundred twenty-sixth episode of the series overall.
Summary[]
John and Harper work together to catch Oscar; Angela investigates a bank robbery; Lucy and Tim learn to adapt to her new schedule, and Miles’ first date takes an unexpected turn.
Plot[]
Penn and Rina share a good talk before he notices her necklace and recognizes it as a possible hint to a gang affiliation. He excuses himself and calls Juarez to share his suspicions with her. Juarez assures him that if he has a bad feeling, she'll check. She quickly runs Rina through the LAPD database and finds she has a criminal record, just as Penn overheard voices from outside and sees gathered men discussing an ambush. Juarez warns Penn that Rina and her brother Ace are affiliated with the Eastern Front, something he realizes when he hears her associates outside of the restaurant planning to ambush him after Rina lures him to them. The Eastern Front quickly notice Penn watching them and move in, with Penn darting out of the restaurant to get ahead. Penn rushes past a protesting Rina, ending up outside where he commandeers a civilian's car, before getting in a car chase with the gang who open fire. As he flees through the city; Penn calls for back-up while taking heavy fire from his hunters. Meanwhile, Juarez notifies Chen of the situation, and she rallies the Dream Team to aid an officer in distress. Chen contacts Penn and realizing he was close, she instructs him to lead the chase to her, he manages to outmaneuver the Eastern Front associates who are promptly arrested by Chen and her unit. Relieved to see her, Penn thanks his new Sergeant for the help and says the team did well. She apologizes for his disaster of a date, he voices how his decision to stay away from dating for a while, something she agreed with.
At the motel, Harper noticed John gone and asks Dash if he's seen Nolan but he hasn't. Harper goes by the vending machine and spots the blood before Dash notifies her of the murder scene of Reggie, notifying her of Oscar's involvement in both events. She quickly asks Dash's mother to let him accompany her to save her kidnapped partner, needing his drone to find him. Dash is excited at the idea, though his mother is reluctant until he and Harper assure her, with her relenting.
Meanwhile, Oscar is driving while a captive Nolan awakes in the trunk to hearing Oscar sing. Oscar soon stops, threatening John to not protest otherwise he will shoot and the latter agrees. Oscar tells John that he tortured Reggie, but the latter wouldn't confess until Oscar cut off his arm, which had a tattoo of an area in the desert. Oscar voices his intention to make the latter dig up the diamonds, then kill him after he outlives his usefulness. Along the trail, Oscar makes small talk with Nolan by bringing up how they have a complicated history. He confirmed to Nolan how Stevens helped him and Jason escape while at the same time preventing Nolan from trying to attack him by holding him at gun point. Elsewhere, Harper and Dash are in a rush to save Nolan, with the latter using his drone to search but find no sign of the pair until spotting the car.
After a long walk, Oscar asks Nolan of the map and Nolan tells Oscar from the looks it appears they passed the location. Oscar then has then turn back, where Nolan confirms the site and digs up the diamonds, Oscar threatens to torture and kill him. Dash finds Oscar and Nolan, as Harper sees that Oscar is moving for the kill and instructs the young man to run his drone into Oscar. With Oscar off-guard, Nolan strangles Oscar with his chain, as they struggle, Nolan sees Harper arrive and states his backup is there while Oscar comments his own back-up has come in the form of two men a helicopter. Oscar breaks free while his goons shoot at Nolan, Harper, and Dash who take cover. Nolan and Harper try to shoot them down, but Oscar manages to escape with his unknown associates, though is angry he has to abandon the diamonds. After they are gone, Nolan and Harper emerge unharmed while Dash is also okay and is thanked by Nolan for saving him, as Dash is excited by the footage he got from his experience. Nolan is upset that Oscar escaped but states at least he won't get rich, showing the diamonds with Dash jokingly asking if he can have one.
Lopez, Wesley, and Grey go to the Homeland Security building, where they spot Nolan there waiting. They asked why he was there, and he explained he was given instructions to come before they ask what became of Oscar and he reveals that Oscar got away and the chopper was found down the road with the murdered bodies of the pilot and door gunner as he was unable to pay them. Garza meets with the group to explain he summoned them all and that a security breach from the theft in Speed, placed many federal agents in compromising situations. He explained in exchange for the return of the security details that a deal with me and someone was given immunity. Wesley gets an idea while the rest of the group wonder who it is before they get the answer. Monica Stevens enters the Homeland Security building, walking past Nolan as he identifies her. She casually asks, "Miss me?" as she passes, much to the anger and dismay of the LAPD members present.
