Tamara Colins is a recurring character on The Rookie. She is played by Dylan Conrique.
Tamara met Lucy Chen when she was homeless ("In Justice") and she stole Chen's beloved Datsun. They formed a friendship; Chen helped Tamara find a place to live and gave Tamara her car - which Tamara then sold.
Tamara has lived in various places since Chen befriended her, including her cousin's apartment and a homeless shelter. In season 4, after the death of Jackson West, Tamara moves into Chen's apartment and continues to live there until she moves out in season 6.
Biography[]
Season 3[]
After Chen's car is stolen, she tracks it down to where Tamara is living in it. Tamara's parents are dead from overdosing on drugs; she was taken in by relatives, but there was violence in their house, so she left them to live on the street. She's 17 and refuses to stay at a shelter because it's too far from her high school, and because people there steal her belongings. Chen offers to help her find a safe place to stay and declines to press charges on the auto theft.
After befriending Chen, Tamara gets her act together and goes on to live in various places, including her cousin's apartment and a homeless shelter.
During "New Blood", Tamara is turning eighteen and looking for her own apartment through a transitional housing program for teens aging out of foster care, and is congratulated by Lucy and West. Much later, her cousin kicks her out, but Lucy decides to officially take her in and allows her to stay with her and West until she can get on her feet.
In "Triple Duty", Nyla Harper pulls some strings for Tamara to skip school and help her with evaluating whether Lucy can undergo undercover work. Tamara enlists a friend to set up a scenario to help Lucy, as Tamara pretends to be a vulnerable girl in an abusive situation and Lucy has to avoid tipping off her identity. Afterwards, Tamara laughs at how Lucy was unaware of her role in Harper's plan.
Season 4[]
In "Five Minutes", Tamara lives with Lucy after Jackson was killed. She has mixed feelings about changing the space Jackson lived in, since she doesn't want to disrupt Jackson's memory. However, Lucy told her it was okay and Tamara went through with it.
In "A.C.H.", she and Lucy are confused when a neighbor tells them that the building is haunted, especially when they look into its history. Later on, they get ready for a Halloween party while noticing food has been missing and learning of an entrance behind their bathroom mirror. Although Lucy wants Tamara to stay behind while she investigates the hidden entrance, Tamara is insistent on tagging along. The two discover a man is actually living in the walls of the building and stealing from the apartments; Tamara even finds the groceries Lucy previously accused her of eating. She later cheers Lucy on when she's subduing the man, after they find he was about to assault a woman, and after he's down, he's arrested.
In "End Game", Tamara has started college classes and starts to think of her future. Much later, one of her friends from the streets, Rebecca "Becca" Price, is killed. Tamara is devastated when Lucy informs her and starts to ask around before finding her friend Declan. She's then horrified to learn Becca was inspired by Tamara getting her act together, and that Declan killed her (albeit unintentionally) out of fear that he would lose her too. After Lucy and Bradford arrest Declan, Tamara talks to Lucy, and the latter comforts her on the experience. Tamara then tells her that she was happy to have met her because of what she can do now. Chen also tells Tamara that they can talk about her past life while homeless, but it could wait when Tamara is ready and the two share a hug.
In "Coding", Tamara fixes up meals that she learned from ClipTalk videos as a way to cheer up Lucy while Lucy prepares to testify against Rosalind Dyer, since the latter was abducted by one of Dyer's followers. Tamara's efforts are somewhat successful, but Lucy remains determined. At the DA's office, Chris Sanford has Lucy look at her filmed abduction while Lucy asks Tamara to leave.
In "Day In The Hole", Tamara purchases a new car before it is discovered to have drugs in it. She is dismayed to learn that it's been taken into evidence but is surprised that it belonged to a criminal who resembles Bradford.
Season 5[]
In "Dye Hard", she and Chris celebrate Lucy's completion of undercover school and she is appreciative.
Season 6[]
In "Crushed", she reveals to Lucy that she has decided to move in with friends to start her own path. Lucy was upset by this and asks for her to one last dinner as a send off. Although Tamara says she doesn’t have to go to trouble, Lucy insists because it is her job as a friend to shower her with love. Smiling, a touched Tamara accepts the offer. She is last seen packing up boxes and moving out of Lucy Chen's apartment. Lucy later allowed Celina Juarez to take Tamara's room, as Tamara jokingly stated Lucy replaced her quickly, but Lucy would tell Tamara that she is irreplaceable because she is her best friend and she can always reach out to her. Tamara thanked her for the sentiment and voiced how she is happy that she stole Lucy's car, that led to their friendship.
Season 7[]
During "The Mickey", she enlists Lucy's help to bust a pill ring forming at her school, showing her pills that she was given by the boyfriend of her friend. Tamara meets Lucy's new trainee Seth Ridley and an instant attraction is made before he volunteers to go undercover to bust the ring, since he looks the part. Indeed, Ridley easily got a deal and LAPD started to build a case. As thanks for his help, Tamara invited Ridley out for ice cream and she sent a picture of them to Lucy who was surprised.
In "The Return", Tamara first appears back in the station, mentioning that she had driven Seth for his first day back at work. We later see her appear at dinner with Seth, where it is revealed that she and Seth are engaged. When Lucy focuses on that, both of them leave the dinner. Tamara later apologises for storming off, and at the end of the episode visits Seth in the hospital, where he is recovering from his amputation. Seth confesses his lies to her, and Tamara takes the ring off.
