Rodge Bronson is a recurring character on The Rookie, played by Zander Hawley.
Biography[]
He is first introduced in "Daddy Cop", where he and his band observe Officers John Nolan and Celina Juarez perform a traffic stop. Rodge takes the time to make a song, calling it Daddy Cop with Nolan serving as inspiration. He stops when Nolan looks at him, but he and his band continue as the traffic stop goes on. As Nolan and Celina were leaving, he continues singing and Nolan decides to confront them before Rodge has the band close the garage to continue singing. As noted by Celina, the song was very catchy, and she'd have occasional slip-ups at work by reciting some of the verses.
Rodge returns in "The Hammer", he subsequently called in a loud disturbance and personally requested for Nolan and Celina who were confused and didn't recognize the area. While they were talking, Rodge and his band performed with Nolan immediately recognizing the song and it turns out Rodge wanted them present to hear how he improved it. Nolan again tried to confront him, though this time was distracted by a robed choir and a guitar solo being added to the original song. Watching his rookie get into it and the song going on, an exasperated Nolan could only walk away but Celina got into hot water when Sergeant Grey reviewed body-cam footage of the event.
During "Chaos Agent", Rodge is officially named and is now dating Celina. He met her again when she was out and they hit off, with him inviting her to his performance and told her to bring friends to the event. Celina chose Nolan and his wife Bailey Nune to come, while withholding Rodge's identity until they met. At the concert, he formally meets Nolan who doesn't realize his identity but recognizes him, though Rodge addressing him as "Daddy cop" before the performance jogs his memory. Nolan was still processing this though the rest of the squad reveal that Rodge seems nice, and it turns out they have all heard his song. Rodge later came to the precinct to meet Celina, revealing vandalism to his house. When going over suspects, Celina asks if it was possible that he made enemies in people that he sung about like Nolan. As it turns out, he has made songs on Firefighters, Girl Scouts, and postal workers but he reveals it was all good fun and observational purposes. This habit finally caught up to him when the precinct came into chaos when prison inmates are housed there and an inmate that he was singing about violently attacks him. He is treated and Celina tells him that the suspect who vandalized his home was his neighbor who was annoyed by him. Having learned his lesson, Rodge clears up misunderstandings with Nolan even saying he was going to wait on release a new song (he made while in ER) about him.
As of "Three Billboards", Rodge is staying with Celina and Chen because of an infestation with his home. Celina referred to him as her boyfriend, officially making them a couple. Rodge joined her in a morning run with her friend/co-worker Miles Penn. Rodge would spend time playing songs in the apartment, while relaying progress to Celina who was intrigued by his ideas. Later on, he brings his sound system to the apartment but he was forced to take it back but repairs the Wi-Fi. Rodge later joined Chen and Juarez into picking up Chen's friend Rachel Hall from a mansion party that Penn notified them of. Once they got there, Rachel wandered off but Rodge found her and she fell asleep in a room. They were later found by Chen and Celina, who were relieved until they all heard gunfire. At Celina's instruction, Rodge stays behind with Rachel while they go to assist Penn. Much later, he announces to Celina that is his home has been given the go ahead for him to return.
