Ray Watkins is a supporting character on The Rookie, played by David Dastmalchian.
Biography[]
Ray Watkins was serving in the Iraq War alongside then-Staff Sergeant Tim Bradford and Sergeant Hughes Tenant. However, unbeknownst to his unit, Ray began engaging in felony grand theft, scamming Iraqi locals and stealing and embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars meant for reconstruction and had planned to go AWOL with the stolen money. Upon this discovery by Bradford, he deserted and took position in a remote structure just outside of Mosul. Bradford himself also went UA to capture Ray for military violations, tracking him down to the remote location. However, upon being pinned, Ray called in an airstrikes on Bradford's team, killing Henderson and Cole while he escaped, faking his death for years.
After faking his death, it is revealed that Ray Watkins somehow survived and has been working has a hitman for various parties worldwide while remaining undetected by Bradford or the US military. However, Hughes had received an anonymous tip revealing his continued existence, alerting Bradford. This leads to a brief confrontation between Watkins and Bradford/Hughes but the latter cannot arrest him as they faked their AAR after the rogue capture operation years before and that any reveal would backfire their careers and lives as well. When Tim begins to pursue Ray for justice, Ray breaks into Lucy's apartment and threatens her, causing Lucy, Tim, and Angela to work together to rescue a political dissident kidnapped by Ray, in which they succeed. Upon capture and interrogation by IA, it is unknown whether Ray is convicted or set free.[1]
