"Man of Honor" is the tenth episode of the third season of The Rookie. This is the fiftieth episode of the series overall.
Summary[]
Officers Harper and Nolan respond to a bank robbery in progress and realize the motives of the thief run much deeper than just needing money. Meanwhile, Officers West and Chen’s first day riding without training officers isn’t what they thought it would be.
Plot[]
Observing the van, John phones Harper and tells her the vehicle was at the robbery as well. He tells her that he thinks Cooper may have been coaxed into the robbing the bank, coming up with a scenario that tracks with the state of how the house was, in which the family just had dinner and Cooper was getting his daughter ice cream before the burglars arrived looking for money. Harper follows up that though the family lived in a big house, they were broke and Cooper offered to rob the bank to protect his family. John and Harper speculate that Cooper was driven to the bank by the burglars to make sure he goes through with it, but the plan went sideways when he died.
John then sees Cooper's wife Alice exit the van, realizing the burglars are forcing her to rob from her job to pawn the expensive jewelry. After she enters, John approaches Alice, who confirms that the burglars aren't listening and he asks if her daughter is in the van but she reveals they have her tucked away as leverage so she can't back down. John contacts Lucy and Jackson, tasking them with finding the missing girl and Alice mentions that she was blindfolded, but her directions enable Jackson to pinpoint where she was held.
Alice gets a call from her abductors and John tells her to be angry, so they won't suspect her. After she answers, the men question Alice on her tardiness and she lies that she threw up out of distress from being held captured. The leader tells her to get herself together otherwise his friend will kill her daughter. After he hangs up, Alice is worried but John has Harper create a distraction by pulling over someone and the paranoid burglars call Alice and tell her to hang back until the cops leave. Alice is relieved for the moment.
Meanwhile, Lucy and Jackson canvas a neighborhood, where they suspect Alice's daughter is being held. Jackson and Lucy soon go over their criminal history lessons and notice a house with curtains up, garbage clutter, and an expensive car parked outside that respectively matches with what they learned: criminals are often secretive, messy, and careless with their money. They run the plates and it belongs to a violent criminal with a robbery charge, as they remarked the lessons paid off and proceed to move in. They enter the house and search before the criminal finds them and they aim at him, demanding his captive's location and she is found in a closet unharmed. Jackson reports to Harper who has the car she pulled over leave. With their leverage gone, the abductors are arrested by John and Harper backed up by more cops arriving.
At the precinct, an overjoyed Alice is reunited with her daughter.
