Laura Stensen is a main character in The Rookie: Feds, played by Britt Robertson. She also appeared as a guest character on The Rookie.
Biography[]
Formerly a member of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit in Washington and also the youngest person assigned to it. Stensen was also originally engaged to be married but her career suffered when she caught her fiancé, Sam cheating on her in bed with her best friend Katie, which resulted in her going on leave after an outburst in the office. As a result, she was forced on a leave to cope with her loss and ignored calls from her partner/friend Mark Atlas who witnessed her episode and wanted to check on her. However, she never wanted him to see her in such a vulnerable state and reluctantly cut ties with him.
Sometime later, she joined the FBI Field Office in Los Angeles and now works as a member of the Special Investigative Unit led by SSA Matthew Garza. Stensen often creates profiles of the criminals the team are investigating. She also hopes to use her time in the unit as a step to regain the career she once had. She also serves as Garza's confidant, keeping his secrets, and is also the training officer/friend of FBI Special Agent Brendon Acres.
In "Star Crossed", she wants to get off therapy because she thinks she has overcome her issues but gets a call from her former best friend Katie and even destroys her phone. This site causes Garza to see she still holds resentment and ignores attempts to talk about it. Unfortunately, Laura comes face-to-face with her past, once Katie personally arrives to talk and it is revealed she is engaged to Sam.
During "To Die For ", she explains a suspect in a case and is surprised to be reunited with Atlas after he was sent by his superiors, which only Garza knew, to her ire. A rivalry ensues between them, much to the annoyance of the team. It didn't take long for rookie Simone Clark to note there was romantic tension between him and Laura, despite Laura asserting they were just friends. Soon Laura got the courage to clear the air and reconcile with Mark. However, the two realize their chemistry and hooked up. She even remarked it was better than she thought.
During "Out for Blood", Laura and the unit are interviewed for a true crime documentary and Atlas joins her. In this time, it is revealed the pair caught a serial killer together and their chemistry is noted by the crew. However, the unit (except Simone who already knew) learns of their relationship after Mark left his mic on and they are teased.
In "Payback", she wanted to spend a romantic day with Atlas when he comes to town to reconnect with her, but the two cannot seem to see eye-to-eye begins to question her on what their status is. Stensen is left scrambling to change the subject and tries to distract Atlas with sex but he rebuffs her attempts to change the topic because she doesn't want to ruin their status. This leads to tension in the case to stop cartel boss Abril Rodas. With advice from Brendon, she calls him, confirming her reciprocation and she became Atlas's girlfriend though she makes rules for their relationship, since it will be long distance.
During "Bloodline", Laura has purchased her new house in the city and Mark congratulates her. When Laura asks her boyfriend if she was impulsive for it, Mark relieves her but he accidentally makes a declaration of love and immediately tries to deflect it. However, the surprised and touched Laura immediately caught on and they share some loving banter.
The Rookie[]
She returns after a long absence in "Escape Plan", where she joined LAPD on a reconnaissance mission to find Monica Stevens. Stensen has a new look and is complimented by Harper, before she tells them the details. She was dismayed by Nolan rushing on the scene after flipping over a reserve, but he is able to save suspected LAPD mole Blair London from being traded to international criminals and suffered a gunshot wound to the side but he was saved by Harper and the FBI. However, Stevens was able to escape but her reputation was now tarnished with her criminal activities confirmed.
During "Mad About Murder", she helps LAPD with a case when a hitman site pops up. She does profiles of the site and was notably surprised to hear that Malvado, a major hitman was the one disposing of loose ends and remarked that getting him would be boost. She later gets a lead on who Malvado was targeting Mitch Yancy, who she profiled as an arrogant rich boy that uses the site to kill people, he deems as pests. After Nolan speculates that Malvado might be nearby, he has Stensen apprehend Yancy while they pursue Malvado. Once Malvado was killed, Stensen tells LAPD that the hitman site will stay up, but the FBI will be using it to bring down any users.
