Katie Barnes was a supporting character in one episode of The Rookie. She was played by Katy M. O'Brian. She was Bradford's new rookie; her badge number was 44313.
Background[]
Barnes' previous experience was in the U.S. Army. At one point she refers to "a little ricochet trick I picked up in Fallujah".
"I was a breacher. 82nd Airborne, 2nd Brigade Combat Team. Advance team and combat patrol. "80-deuce, all the way"... sir."
LAPD[]
Barnes joined the LAPD straight out of the military and was assigned Tim Bradford as her training officer. Barnes slipped back into her military training several times, including suggesting a call for "reinforcements" rather than "back up", referring to suspects as "enemies", and beginning to engage a captured suspect in hostile interrogation. Lucy Chen at one point confronted Bradford over how differently he was treating Barnes compared to when she was his rookie; Bradford stated that while Chen needed to learn that not everyone was fundamentally good and to be less trusting, Barnes needed to overcome the feeling that everyone was an enemy out to kill her and the street of LA were a combat zone.
Barnes eventually concluded that a career in police enforcement was not a good prospect, as she felt she wouldn't be able to move on from her combat mindset, and withdrew from officer training, leaving the LAPD.
Quotes[]
BARNES: Man, I heard you were such a hard-ass, and here you are, showing me ladybugs, and teaching me how to be all zen.
BRADFORD: What can I say? I'm a complicated guy.
