Biography

Jessica Russo, formerly a hostage rescue specialist for the FBI, is now a private security consultant. From her conversation with Sgt. Grey, it seems that they knew each other before she went private. She has written at least one book on crisis negotiation techniques, which she signs for Nolan at the end of "Manhunt".

Russo reappears in "The Shake Up", where it's apparent that she and Nolan are in a relationship. Jessica recommends Nolan to her friend, ADA Sean Del Monte, for a job. Sean tells Nolan about an ex of hers being a Navy SEAL, and she later confirms that she dated one for about two months right after her divorce, and she reassures Nolan that she doesn't mind that he's a rookie.

In the Season 1 finale, "Free Fall", Nolan is troubled by the ethics of concealing information apparently required by Russo's job with Homeland Security. At the beginning of Season 2, she and Nolan seem to have resolved their differences.

In "Safety", Russo realizes her cycle is off and that she might be pregnant. When she finds she isn't - and has an epiphany about becoming a mom - she finds that Nolan isn't ready to become a father again, and she and Nolan tearfully part ways.

• In "Green Light", when Chen asks Nolan why he's so cheerful, she and West both suggest "Jessica!" and Nolan admits to it.
• In "Impact", Grey shares that when Russo was with the FBI, she ordered a manhunt when a school bus went missing, only to find that a third-grader had stolen the bus because he didn't want to take a test. Russo also reveals she has kept up with the boy's life, knowing both his name and what University he was attending.
