Jason Wyler was a recurring character on The Rookie. He was a known sociopath as well as the ex-husband of Lt. Bailey Nune. He was portrayed by Steve Kazee.
According to Oscar Hutchinson's assumptions, Jason takes satisfaction from making women feel little in order to make himself feel big, as he is highly insecure about himself. He is emotionally abusive and avoids personally carrying out violent acts, instead using others to carry them out in his place.
Biography[]
In "Heart Beat", Jason was working as a landscaper before Bailey confronted him. He initially tried to be polite but she angrily accused him of breaking into her home. He denies the story, though reveals he did not want a divorce and voiced a desire to reconcile. However, Bailey shouts that she is not the same person he remembers and leaves. Jason did not take this well especially from the humiliation he received from observers. He decided to get back at her by placing cocaine in her car.
In "End Game", his scheme is uncovered and his new girlfriend Evelyn dumps him after finding out what time the key used on her was previously used on Bailey. He has connections with criminal gangs and he is forced to turn himself in. Jason cuts a deal with the DA to act as an informant against the Southern Front, for whom he had been laundering money. Oscar Hutchinson informed the Southern Front of this, in exchange for them lifting the hit they had placed against him. Following the operation, he broke the deal by assaulting John Nolan and was sentenced to eight years in prison.
During "Escape Plan", Oscar Hutchinson's lawyer Monica Stevens makes him a deal for escape and the latter approaches Jason for aid. At first, Jason was uninterested until Oscar reveals John and Bailey got married, offering him escape to exact revenge if he joins him. Jason agrees and the two beat an inmate for information regarding his boss, until he gives up key facts that help. Afterwards, Stevens supplies Jason and Oscar with prison guard uniforms and a car that the two use to slip out of prison. The two commented on how easy it was, Oscar asked Jason where he wants to be dropped off and Jason proudly answers "LA, baby!" The news of their escape reach John and Bailey who became worried.
In "The Shot", Jason and Oscar are still at large. The squad tried to locate him at a house that he was rumored to stay in but the criminal occupants said he was not there. Bailey used her position as an Army reserve to hide herself.
In "Out of Pocket", the Southern Front still hold a grudge against Jason and have sent Malvado, a notorious hitman after him and the LAPD believed Jason was doomed for sure. Despite his disdain for him, John believed prison was a better option for Jason than unmarked grave. John later discovered Trey Duncan, Jason's former cell mate and realized he may know something about him. Unfortunately, Malvado also got the same idea and found the cellmate first, leading to a confrontation. It turns out that Malvado knows about John and that he also wants to find Jason too. After Malvado escaped to continue his own search, John interrogated the cellmate learns that Jason is currently hiding with a woman.
In "Darkness Falling", Grey tells Nolan that Jason's fingerprints had been found at robberies in both Provo, Utah and Detroit, Michigan, making them believe that Jason had fled Los Angeles to escape Malvado.
In "Til Death", Jason has paid an accomplice to plant his fingerprints at the previously mentioned robberies and had stayed in Los Angeles after all. Jason then attempted his revenge plan against Bailey by hitting her with his car and kidnapping her. However, Bailey was able to fight back and break Jason's arm, causing him to crash the car. Jason then fled with his accomplice, Drew Davis, who had previously shown up at Nolan's house in "Out of Pocket". Malvado then tracked them down and shot Davis with an AR-15 rifle, killing her, just as Nolan and Celina Juarez were able to find their location by tracking Davis's phone. While in hiding, Jason saw Davis' corpse and realized Malvado was near. Nolan shouted for him to surrender and come out, as he alerted the latter of Malvado's presence. Just as Jason stepped out of his cover, Malvado promptly shot him through the abdomen, killing him. Nolan checked on him, as a search was made for Malvado but he successfully escaped.
