Grace Sawyer was a recurring character on The Rookie, played by Ali Larter.

Biography

Dr. Grace Sawyer first appears in "The Night General" when she and John Nolan run into each other at Shaw Memorial, after not seeing each other for twenty years. Grace tells him that she's been at Shaw for three weeks, that she's the new head of Emergency Medicine, and that she has an eight-year-old; she wears a ring on her third finger. John tells Nick Armstrong that he and Grace met in college and became friends while John was dating his ex-wife Sarah. When Sarah and John broke up, John and Grace had an intense couple of weeks:

"We met my junior year. I was dating my ex-wife, Sarah, since high school, and, uh, we hit a bad spell and broke up. And that's when Grace happened. (remembering) Yeah, we'd been friends for a few months, and there had always been a spark, but it just went off like a bomb. Crawled all over each other for two weeks. It was zero to 160 in the span of a heartbeat. ... Then Sarah showed up at my dorm eight weeks pregnant."  - John Nolan, "The Night General"

According to Grace, John left her twenty years ago by leaving a note on her door and then disappearing, which still makes her angry.

Grace revealed at the end of the episode that she is married and has an eight year old child. However, she later tells Nolan in "The Bet" that she has been estranged from her husband Simon for over a year.

By the time of the episode "Safety", Grace and John Nolan have become more friendly, enough so that Nolan asks for her advice about dealing with his son. In this episode, Grace mentions that her son's name is Oliver, and that she decided not to have more children because of all the trauma in the world.

In "Clean Cut", Grace wishes Nolan a happy birthday over the phone, and Nolan is surprised that she had remembered his birthday. At the end of the episode, Grace gives Nolan a steamer as a birthday present.

In "Breaking Point", Grace and Nolan go on a date, and by the events of "Follow-Up Day", they seem to be rekindling their relationship.

In "The Overnight", Grace reveals to Nolan that, though she is officially separated from her husband Simon, she wants to take her relationship with Nolan slow while she works out her divorce. She is also not ready for Nolan to meet her son due to the fact that she is not divorced yet.

In "Under the Gun", Grace reveals to Nolan that she is attempting to rekindle her relationship with her husband Simon in order for her son to be happy again. They come to an understanding and Grace leaves.
