Professor Fiona Ryan is a recurring character on The Rookie, played by Toks Olagundoye.
Background[]
Ryan teaches a course in Ethics and Criminal Justice Nolan is taking in season 3, when he's finishing up his college education in preparation for becoming a T.O. He and Ryan have several conversations about his professional ethics in the context of civil rights; they encounter each other in both the educational, law enforcement, and personal arenas.
In "New Blood", Ryan is stalked and has her car window busted. Some suspects are taken in but cleared after having frivolous reasons. She later tells Nolan that she and her grandmother survived a 1985 incident in Philadelphia, in which police bombed a residential area as part of an action against a Black liberation group known as MOVE.[1] Ryan credits the incident and the civil rights movement with inspiring her to become an activist.
