Emilia Lopez

Emilia Lopez is a guest character on seasons 5 and 7 of The Rookie. She is mother to Benny, Bruno, Damian, Cruz, and Angela Lopez, and grandmother to Jack and Emmy.

Biography[]

Emilia Lopez was divorced or separated from her husband, as Angela states her father left them; once in a while he'd show up with toys for them. Angela claimed he passed away due to cancer shortly after.

In "The Fugitive", Emilia is assaulted and found on her daughter's doorstep by Angela and Wesley. They bring Emilia to the hospital, where she has a good talk with Officer Aaron Thorsen and attempted to set him up with her niece. The talk is interrupted by Angela who confronts her on the events. Emilia tells Angela a man had thrown her onto the ground and said ,"Your son is running out of time." She also mentions getting in a good hit at his face while attacked. After an investigation by Angela and Nyla Harper, they conclude that Benny was the target of this message. He was having money problems, so he turned to a loan shark, who sent an enforcer after his mother. Angela and Harper find the enforcer with the bruise on his face and arrest him. She holds a family dinner, with Angela and Wesley coming down to join her and the brothers. She voices thanks for Wesley defending his in-laws, before addressing her daughter. Emilia apologizes to her if it ever seemed like she overlooked her but voices that she was proud of her for independent and looking out for her family.

During "Mutiny And The Bounty", she gets a call from her friend Ruth Harper about being uprooted from her home. She quickly comes down to the house, where Ruth is with her daughter and Angela who expressed surprise by her arrival, as Emilia casually greets and dashes past her to speak with Ruth. Both Harper and Lopez are surprised to learn that their mothers know each other and are friends like them, but they clarify they are in fact best friends, telling their daughters they would know this had they called more. Emilia and Ruth later go to the station, where their daughters explained Ruth was a victim of a woman named Priscilla, a con artist who has been looked into by the authorities for a while and Ruth is not the only elderly woman she tricked. Emilla comforts her friend, before her daughter tells her they’re going to catch her in the act by using the Lopez home and Emilla as her new target. Immediately thinking this will be fun, Emilla agrees and happily put on the wire. Indeed, Priscilla takes the bait and is caught falsifying documents Lopez in Harper enter an arrest her. Emilla high fives her daughter on a job well done.

She mentions in "The Fugitive" that she has a niece called Isabella, which indicates she has either a sibling or siblings.
She made Angela swear to not arrest her brother Cruz.
She is best friends with Ruth Harper, Nyla Harper's mother.
