Benjamin "Benny" Lopez is a minor character on The Rookie. He is one of five, siblings including Angela Lopez. He is a businessman.
History[]
When Benny was younger, his father walked out on the family. As a teen, he showed future business prowess by opening an investment account using lawnmower earnings and his grandmother's Social Security number. Angela also mentioned that her brothers bullied her by stuffing her in a pillowcase and dragging her around the neighborhood, leading to her becoming the tough cop she is now. However, it 's obvious that they all care for each other.
Benny debuts in "The Fugitive", where he is brought to his sister's job once their mother Emilia is found assaulted on Angela's doorstep by Angela and Wesley. Angela tells Benny and the rest of her brothers they are all under investigation after the assailant stated "Your son is running out of time." All three brothers were represented by their brother-in-law Wesley Evers in an attempt by Wesley to get their approval (he succeeds in the end). Benny attempts to deflect attention to his troubled brother Cruz and repeatedly annoys Detective Nyla Harper by being on the phone, until she takes it from him.
Benny admits he works with jealous or competitive people in the business world, but believes attacking his mother was more generous than suing him to death. Later, Angela speaks with Emilia, who admitts to loaning Benny her car; Angela deduces that Benny was having money problems, so that he turned to a loan shark who sent an enforcer after his mother. Angela and Harper find Benny with a gun contemplating revenge against the loan shark and the enforcer, before they confront him as a sister and cop respectively. He admits his financial problems but says that he didn't intend for his family to get hurt. Angela orders him to let her handle it and finds the loan shark, before identifying the enforcer and arresting him.
At a family dinner, Benny joins Angela and Wesley and the brothers. Benny laughs at how Angela was upset by Wesley defending them.
