Abril Rodas was a recurring antagonist during the fourth and fifth seasons of The Rookie and a minor antagonist during the first season of The Rookie: Feds. She was portrayed by Gigi Zumbado.
History[]
As a baby, Abril was ripped from the arms of her father and thrown onto the ground by a soldier, Owen Ripley, who then murdered him. She survived, but at the cost of being unable to ever sleep while also being in a constant state of arousal. She grew up consumed with finding and exacting revenge against Ripley.
She was the Chief of Security for Sandra de La Cruz, who was shot and killed by Angela Lopez during the operation where Lopez was rescued from Guatemala in "Life and Death".
In "Breakdown", Abril returned to Los Angeles, having become the new leader of de La Cruz's cartel, and killed most of the rival cartels in the area including Elijah Stone's men while he hid in a cabinet and was later found by the LAPD. He admits to Lopez that Abril had returned to punish him for revealing de La Cruz's location to Wesley Evers during "Life and Death". Abril later calls Lopez and warns her not to come after her.
In "The Con", Abril briefly became allies with Stone after the LAPD's operation to arrest them both had failed. However, in "The Enemy Within", Stone was arrested by Lopez and Nyla Harper during a drug exchange between him and Abril's associates and he was sent to prison.
In "Payback", Stone is visited by FBI agent Laura Stensen and he gives her information about Abril's whereabouts.
Using a bug installed on Elena Flores, Abril was able to listen into the conversations of the Special Investigations Unit led by Elena's uncle, FBI Supervisory Special Agent Matthew Garza and get a location on Owen. She tracked him down to a warehouse and took him hostage at gunpoint just as FBI agents Simone Clark and Carter Hope arrived.
Despite Simone's efforts to talk Abril down and get her to surrender, Abril refused, shooting Owen fatally in the chest, avenging her father, before Carter responded by shooting her dead as well.
